SEVA's
Health and Sustainability Programs
In 2010, SEVA launched a research
program focused on equality and sustainability in the government health system,
with financial support from Memisa, Belgium. Supervised by the West Bengal
Voluntary Health Association, the program aimed to improve healthcare access
and quality in rural areas. SEVA organized a series of training sessions for
health functionaries to enhance the quality of health services in villages.
Additionally, SEVA, in
coordination with community members, formed Adolescent Groups, Geriatric
Groups, and Self-Help Groups (SHGs), empowering individuals to take charge of
their health and well-being. The creation of Health Funds also made a
significant impact on the community, providing necessary resources for
health-related initiatives.
SEVA’s commitment to sanitation
led to the construction of community toilets in rural villages, beginning in
the 1980s and continuing as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission in 2014-15,
improving hygiene and public health in these areas.
