Julie’s (name changed) life began in a loving family, but after marrying her happiness was shattered when she was diagnosed as HIV positive during pregnancy. She soon discovered that her husband had kept his own HIV status hidden from her. Despite the pain, she gave birth to a daughter, but her life became a cycle of physical and mental abuse. Desperate, she returned to her mother's home, but her husband convinced her to come back, promising change. However, the abuse continued. After another pregnancy and more torment, she returned to her mother’s house once again.
Her mother determined to help and sought assistance from the Department of Social Welfare, Government of West Bengal. She was referred by the District Social Welfare Officer to 'Ananda Kendra' run by SEVA. There, she joined an incense stick-making training program, sponsored by Anudip Foundation and Titan Company Ltd. This opportunity marked a turning point, offering her a chance at financial independence, dignity, and control over her future. Today, she stands as a resilient, independent woman, thriving after overcoming her darkest days, ready to face the future with courage and hope
